SVHOA Board Meeting

Ø      Board members present: Mike Sobczak, Phil Raymond, Mike Recob, John Nowosatka, Joe Carroll, Matt Dana, Terry Emery

Ø      MHSAA Association affiliation… Recob to email MHSAA to have SVHOA recognized as an association.

Ø      Confirmed board member positions.  Matt continues as Treasurer, Recob as Secretary, Sobczak as President, and Raymond as Vice-President.

Ø      If Joe gets chosen as AHHS hockey coach, will he continue on as RIC?  Joe said he has no problem with the workload involved with head coach and USA Hockey RIC for SVHOA.  Randy Allen has no problem with Joe as our USA Hockey RIC with SVHOA as long as MHSAA games are handled by our High School RIC / scheduler (John Nowosatka).

Ø      The board decided to have the SVHOA board appoint the HS RIC/game scheduler instead of the SVHOA RIC.

Ø      Men’s League scheduling problems.  Need to put A or B with 40+ games, but not A & B on same night, nor A, B & 40+ on same night.  Joe will follow-up with Dave Westner.

Ø      Policy for “Games Missed”:

o       When an official misses an assigned game(s) he/she will be fined the amount of the game(s) missed.

o       The official doing the game by himself/herself is required to contact Matt Dana (preferably by email).  If this does not happen, he/she will not get “double pay”.

o       If an official is faced with doing a game by himself/herself, but gets another official to fill in, you must contact Matt Dana.  The official missing that game will be fined.

o       Any official missing games on two or more days during the same scheduling period will not be assigned any games for the next scheduling period.

o       Mike Recob will draft the policy for the board to review, and prepare for distribution at next SVHOA meeting (02-Nov-04).

Ø      HS Pay for games officiated during the 2004-2005 season will be $55/55/50.

Ø      John Nowosatka will begin scheduling HS games at the next SVHOA meeting (2-Nov-04).

Ø      Should our association form a corporation to cover ourselves with the Federal Government?  Are we currently a “Non-Profit Organization”. This needs verification.

o       Need to have Matt check with our bank for history of a Non-Profit Org ID #.

o       If we incorporate, every official will be required to fill out a W9 form.  When an official reaches $600 wages during a fiscal year for games officiated with GSAHA, he/she will be required to fill out the 1099 form.

o       Still need to determine the legal ramifications if we remain “Non-Profit”

§         W9(s) required?

§         Dave Westner controls payroll for the officials and not SVHOA.

§         Need to meet with Dave Westner.
